While ICFF 2016 was packed with design delights of all kinds, we found the lighting fixtures to be among the most interesting pieces. A wide range of styles and materials made for a seemingly endless supply of ideas for adding new lighting designs to your home decor. Here are a few of the companies that presented artful and pleasing lighting collections.
Bover Barcelona Lights
Gubi is a Copenhagen-based company that produces lighting designs that are relaunched designs from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. This is the Multi-Lite Collection which is made in the style of the golden era of Danish design . The two sides have shades that rotate, allowing a multitude of combinations. Originally designed in 1972 by Louis Weisdorf, it is a timeless piece that has permanent chic.
These cute modern fixtures look like plain geometric pendants until you discover that they are all 3-D printed. Two Parts uses technology to print the ceramic fixtures. Each one uses hidden LEDs inside the unibody, making it look like the interior is the light source. The lights, assembled in New York with parts from Europe, Asia and Queens, are technologically amazing and visually pleasing.
We’ve long admired the artful, modern light fixtures by Shakuff. The company’s artists push the boundaries of glass; as masters of their art they combine old school techniques with modern design. This spiral of spun glass globes is a fantastic chandelier.
These whisper thin globes are part of the Breath collection. The fixture comes in a variety of glass colors, including Clear, Matte Silver, Matte Gold, Amber Translucent, Champagne Translucent, Pink Translucent, Grey Translucent, Purple Translucent, and Blue Translucent. The globes can be hung in an endless variety of configurations as well as singly.
This light and airy chandelier from Metal Lux is the Silhouette Ø 60 suspension light. The structure is made of metal wire with a Murano glass blown drop. The shape was “inspired by the elegance of the delicate contours of the body of a woman, as a dress caressing the sinuous contours of an elegant lady.”
Anna Karlin works with many mediums and believes strongly “that all the disciplines contribute wonderfully to each other and therefore no one area must remain untouched.” This antique brass half cylinder shell encloses a rose alabaster acrylic sphere and a cylinder. The shapes emit a warm glow. While the fixture comes in two sizes, it can be customized to fit any space.
Hip Haven came to fame for its Retro Bullet Planters, and has now added these bullet pendant lights, available in a wide range of colors. The Austin, Texas-based Hip Haven, Inc., led by designer Kelley Sanding, launched online in 2002.
This large and luminous suspension light is just like bubbles floating on the moving surface of water. Presented by Volk Lighting, it’s a one-of-a-kind piece.
